"According to legends, a powerful wizard created a town in the middle of a magical forest. His
name was Ata the Austere. He and his partner, Devylnn the Darling, caused the grass and
flowers and mushrooms to grow, grow tall enough to house a town of thirty men. They named
the town HeatherBelle, after the two famous pixies, Heather and Belle. All was well and Ata
went to rest. That's when Devylnn betrayed her partner. Consumed by a celestial dark force,
she cursed HeatherBelle and attacked Ata. Ata was powerful enough to fight back, and in the
end, both of them had presumably perished. Ata's spirit formed the stars of the night sky,
which twinkled and glittered like sequins. However, Devylnn's curse was never lifted from
HeatherBelle. Rumour has it that every century, dark spirits possess two villagers and are
forced to wreak havoc on the town."
Chari took a deep breath as she slammed the dusty book shut, from which she had read out
loud the legend of Ata the Austere.
"They also renamed Devylnn the Darling to Devylnn the Dreadful," she told her friends.
Her friends only came to see her because she'd been acting strangely to them.
"So is this why you've been so uptight lately?" Alairina asked her, trying to hold back a laugh.
"It's only a legend Chari."
Chari was about to respond when the village bell rang, signalling the time for bed.
"See you tomorrow." Song bode his friends good night, and he and Alairina left Chari's
mushroom home.
Chari shrugged her shoulders, muttering It's only just a legend... over and over again until
she sank into her bed and drifted to sleep.
At exactly midnight, two dark shadows fell from the sky and flew into two mushroom houses.
They possessed two innocent villagers, who were sound asleep under their sheets.
HeatherBelle was destined to be in ruins.

Patry was woken up from the sound of his bedroom door opening. Not daring to breathe, he
peeked from underneath his sheets. A slim figure stood above him, their arm outstretched.
Without warning, sharp searing pains in Patry's throat made him cry out, and he yelled and
writhed in pain as he floated into the air. The figure was wearing a dark cloak, hiding their
face from view, although Patry could see locks of hair resting on her chest, glistening from the
moonlight. Patry screamed as something burst from his throat: it was a rose. Its blood-red
petals sparkled in the light from his blood. Patry lay there, dying, gasping for breath.
I can't breathe...I c-can't breathe...I-I can't...
Patry took one last breath and stopped moving.
The murderer got to their feet, lifting the cloak from their face. She let out a high laugh
before leaving Patry, who was still clutching his sheets.
Alairina wasn't paranoid about the legend. That was until he barged in. She recognised him,
oh how his eyes had turned from hazel-nut brown to dark-red. The figure raised one arm and
pointed at her. Alairina moved her arms in a circle, creating a see-through bubble around her.
The knife that the figure summoned clattered to the floor as it hit the bubble. Alairina edged
towards the door but stopped in her tracks as she felt something in her throat. She coughed
up something: red rose petals. The rose burst from her throat and she screamed again,
collapsing to the floor. The bubble disappeared as she squirmed on the floor, clutching her
throat. Without hesitating, the murderer grabbed his knife and stabbed her in the stomach
before leaping out of her bedroom window. Alairina could see the stars that Ata's spirit formed
as she stopped breathing.
