This one is shorter but xD
“Hey, Ben, come look at this,” Sphynx stood in front of a big vault that was covered in designs.
Ben was just going through a pile of books, but he looked over his shoulder to see what Sphynx was talking about. He put down the books and walked towards Sphynx.
“Wow...that’s a big vault,” Ben commented. He ran his fingers along the patterns, as he noted that all of the designs looked carefully crafted into the vault. Each symmetric line interlocking with one another.
"This is beautiful," Ben breathed. The vault reminded him of a bank vault, but it was prettier and larger.
"I wonder what's in it," Sphynx questioned. He tried pulling on the vault lock, but it wouldn't budge.
"Well, obviously someone didn't want people to know what's in it," Ben replied. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
"Now what?" Sphynx turned to Ben.
Ben frowned.
"I'm not sure," he admitted.
"I guess let's just keep looking," Ben said. He walked away.
"But Ben, what are we looking for?" Sphynx asked.
Ben stopped.
"I don't know that either," he said, and started walking again.
Ben and sphynx wandered the hallways until they came across a large ballroom. It was dusty and dirty and covered in cobwebs now, but they could tell that it used to be a popular place for a party.
Ben walked into the ballroom, and suddenly he felt ill. His hands became numb and his head spun. He shivered violently and fell to the ground.
He clutched his head as it began to throb.
"Ben!" Sphynx ran to help him.
"What's wrong?!" Sphynx shook Ben.
"Everything hurts," Ben groaned.
Suddenly, Ben began to scream as visions rushed at him. The visions were scrambled and it was hard to tell what was happening.
Then, a vision became clear, and Ben stopped screaming and closed his eyes. He let the vision take over him, and he went limp.
"But father, I've only experimented on animals, and I've had several successes," a voice whispered.
Ben was floating in a dark black room, but in front of him he saw the ballroom, but it was filled with people. Ben guessed that he was looking into an old memory from someone else.
"No, it's much too dangerous. What if something goes wrong?" A second voice replied.
"It won't," the first voice pleaded, "I've studied all of these animals and their behaviors. I studied what happened to them when I combined their DNA, but if I could try with humans-"
"No! I am done with this discussion! You will do as I say and not tamper with nature. Do not disobey me," the second voice warned.
"Yes, father," the first voice replied sadly.
The memory started to fade, and Ben could see another memory approaching him. Ben saw the same person. The young man was opening up a cage, and he put himself inside. He reached through the bars and started pushing buttons on a metal box outside of the cage.
"If father won't let me test my hypothesis on other humans, then I will test it on myself," the man switched a lever, and suddenly the cage began to glow. The bars began to spark, and the man smiled as suddenly the room was lit up.
But something went wrong. The cage started to shake violently and the man screamed in pain. He tried to reach the lever to shut the machine off, but he was being thrown around too much.
The man's shape began to change, horns started sprouting from his head. His hands got bigger and he gained claws. His face twisted in a horrible way, and he screeched. He fell to the ground. His spine started cracking and changing position.
In less than a minute, the young man became a horrible creature.
The creature turned towards Ben, and screamed. It ran towards him just as Ben was pulled out of the vision, and back into the present.
He shot up, his face was sweating and he was panting like a dog.
"What happened?" Sphynx yelped.
Ben wiped his forehead and tried to process each memory.
"A really horrible accident," ben replied.
"What do you mean?" Sphynx asked.
Ben explained his dreams to Sphynx.
Suddenly, something shrilled in the distance.
"That! I heard that in my dream!" Ben started connecting the dots.
"You heard that horrible noise in your dream?" Sphynx asked.
"Yeah," ben replied.
Sphynx thought for a moment, "does that mean that whatever was in your dream...is still alive?"
