The mansion shook. Everyone was thrown off balance and thrown against the wall. Bookshelves crashed to the ground and chandeliers fell. Something shrieked and shrilled in the distance.
"What was that??" Cookie uprighted herself and gasped.
"I don't know," Capitaine said. He was under a large pile of books. He threw some books off of him and stood up.
"Maybe it was an earthquake," Capitaine suggested.
"No...something shrieked in the distance...it wasn't a human," Cookie thought out loud.
"But cookie, this place is like a 100 or 200 years old. There's no way something in here is still alive," capitaine reasoned.
"I know there is something in here! I just know it," she paused, "see? Look at these claw marks. They're recent." She pointed to large, claw marks on the wall that tore off some of the wall paper.
"Maybe like a bear is in here," capitaine shuddered at the thought. Capitaine definitely did not want to run into a bear. He started trying to pick the bookshelf back up, and put some of the books back on it.
"Why are you doing that? It's an abandoned mansion. Abandoned. No one here," Cookie remarked.
"Just a habit of mine, I guess," Capitaine stopped and stood up.
Capitaine heard a deep growl ripple through the hallway.
"Did you just growl at me?" Capitaine laughed.
"I thought you did," Cookie stopped. She turned around and saw a huge, horrid monster with glinting eyes and a shimmering fur coat.
"Uh, Capitaine?" Cookie gulped.
"Yeah?" He whimpered.
"I don't think it was satisfied with your cleaning skills," she replied, half joking.
"It will be satisfied with my running skills," capitaine bolted towards the other direction, with cookie following shortly behind him.
The monster shrilled and pounded towards them, each step making the mansion shudder. It's horns scraped against the ceiling, creating a screeching sound. It's tail followed behind it.
Cookie and Capitaine were running as fast as they could, but it was no use. The monster was too fast. Without thinking, Capitaine grabbed cookie's hand, ran inside a room, and shut the door.
"Help me with the wardrobe. Quick!" Capitaine started pushing the heavy oak wood wardrobe towards the door, and Cookie rushed in to help him. Pushing with all their might, they shoved the wardrobe in front of the bedroom door.
They could hear the monster right outside the door, it's loud, ragged breathing making it very obvious that it was tired and angry.
"Ok, ok," Cookie looked around the room. It was a normal bedroom, and didn't really have a knife set, which Cookie was hoping for so maybe she could stab the monster.
But the room did have a window.
"I got it!" A lightbulb went on in Cookie's brain.
"Lets climb out of the window and down to the floors below us. Hopefully we can run into someone. The more of us there are, the less likely we are to be eaten, right?" She laughed nervously.
"That's a great idea! Um, except for the part about us being eaten," he said.
The monster, wanting to make itself known again, clawed at the door and let out another shrill.
"Quickly, let's get out before we're that monster's dinner," Cookie opened the window and started climbing out.
"Oh...my goodness. The mansion is very tall," she squeaked. Gathering all of her courage, she crawled onto a ledge and began to descend to the floor below them. Capitaine followed her, but he made sure to close the window behind him. Maybe the monster was stupid?
Capitaine decided to pretend he had a harness around him so he could pretend that even if he fell he wouldn't plummet towards certain death. It didn't work. Capitaine was still terrified.
"Hey, there's another window!" Cookie pointed below her, to her right. She started to crawl towards it. Again, capitaine followed her.
Eventually, they both made it to the window, and hopped inside the room.
"Wait, it's griz! And rose!" Capitaine noticed griz at the front of the room, and rose was on the bed.
"Cookie! Capitaine!" Griz's face filled with joy.
"Thank goodness you're here," Griz sighed. He motioned towards Rose.
"Hey...whats wrong with rose?" Cookie asked.
"She went into shock. She was attacked by a bear or something," Griz looked sad.
Capitaine and Cookie looked at each other.
"I don't think that was a bear," cookie said.
"What do you mean?" Griz asked.
"Um you know how we came from the window? Yeah, well, that was because we were being chased by a monster thing so we climbed out of the window and escaped to the floor below us," capitaine said.
"Monster? That's what attacked Rose? But why didn't it kill her? Was it looking for something that she doesn't have?" Griz asked.
"Yes, yes,I dont know, and i dont know," Cookie answered, "but we should definitely find the others."

Gracious was finally regaining the strength in her legs. She told recoloured and venus that she didn't need help anymore, but they disagreed with her. So, they continued. Very slowly.
"Y'know we would go faster if you guys would let me walk on my own," gracious suggested.
"No! Your leg is still healing, we don't wanna hurt it more," Venus said. She frowned.
"No, really, im fine," gracious protested.
"No, you're not. You will stay with us until all of us agree that it won't damage your leg for you to walk by yourself again," recoloured said.
"Fine," gracious grumbled.
The group wandered into an old kitchen. Maybe it was because they were hungry, but they decided to venture there anyways.
There was a beautiful chandelier that hung above the room, and a rug and small table beneath it.
Something in the room smelled horrible, it made all three girls gag.
"What is that horrible stench?" Gracious gagged again.
"I have no idea. It smells like someone combined a rotted onion, fish, and cheese and then microwaved it together," Venus coughed.
"Here, guys, I'll just hop around using one leg, and you guys should just look around," gracious smiled.
"Fine," Venus and recoloured said at the same time. For the first time in a while, all three girls split up.
While plugging their noses, they searched the kitchen for what could be making the horrible smell. Recoloured searched through old cabinets, Venus was searching under things, and Gracious was just leaning against a bookshelf.
"See guys? I'm fine-" gracious was cut short because suddenly the bookshelf behind her caved in and revealed a secret room.
"Ah!" Gracious yelped and hopped away from the bookshelf/secret door.
"Woah! Cool!" Venus and recoloured rushed over to gracious.
"What's in there? I can't see anything, it's so dark," Venus turned on her flashlight and aimed it towards the room.
Venus stuck her head in the room.
"I don't really see any-" suddenly she screamed and threw herself backwards.
"What is it?" Recoloured opened the bookshelf fully to reveal a huge, rotting animal corpse.
