INTRODUCTION: The Deadly Machine Part 1

I have to travel back to the Industrial Revolution but I can't do it alone. I need to bring 10 friends from the present with me to defeat the evil that lurks beneath the surface of this time..." - The Savant.
The Invitation.
Dear Friend,
I cordially invite you to a party like no other. The only catch to this party is that it will be taking place in another time, in fact, the past. No modern technology or anything from the modern world is allowed, otherwise you will not be able to pass through the gate into the past. I have given you a persona reminiscent of the Industrial Revolution. You will have to dress as the character I have given you and take on their persona for the night. Find enclosed details of the persona I have given you. Good luck!

"Who the heck is the Savant?" - Maddie
"Hm, I'm not so sure about this..." - Ash
" HEY FREE PARTY I'M IN!" - Jay
6 hours later...
Each of the Savant's invited guests get into a time machine (in the form of a carriage) to go back in time to the Industrial Revolution. They arrive one by one at a luxurious mansion where the party is being held, anxiously waiting for the Savant to appear. The guests introduce themselves to the others and enjoy a few drinks (of NON ALCOHOLIC champagne) before the real party begins...
"Hi, I'm Cakey, and I'm the prospector."
"I'm Eric and I'm the engineer."
"My name is Jelourd and I'm the labourer."
"I am Ash, and my character is a socialist."
"I'm Maddie and I'm an inventor!"
"Dist is the name, pioneering is my game! Wait, you didn't get it...? I'm a pioneer..."
"My name is Jay and I am the elite."
"I am Arya and I am the writer."
"I'm Santa. I'm not the Claus, but I am the Luddite."
"I'm Anmo and I am the designer."
The guests are trying to figure out which person is the Savant, the person who invited them to this luxurious mansion. They soon realise it is no one currently in the room with them.
"No one here is the Savant. We all seem to be in the same boat, however. It's creepy..." - Cakey
Suddenly, the guests are greeted by the workers at the party, Kim and Vert. They are quite talkative to the guests but Anmo gets pretty suspicious of the place.
"My first impression of this time era... I don't trust it or anyone in it." - Anmo
Anmo starts talking to Jay regarding this, however, Jay thinks this is perfectly normal since he is playing the part of an upper class male.
"I mean, the party hasn't really started yet... I'm sure it gets better... most parties I have been to don't start late into the night. Unless this is a lower class party, which I assume it is looking at some of the people here." - Jay
After about an hour of waiting...
The guests are gathered into one of the grand rooms of the house. In front of them are Kim, Vert and the person they have been dying to meet all night, the Savant. Everyone immediately recognised her, it was their friend Megan, who was thought to disappear many months ago. Turns out she was alive and in the flesh in the time of the Industrial Revolution!
"I AM SO HAPPY TO SEE MEGAN!" - Santa
"It's been months since anyone has seen her." - Eric
"I'm still pretty suspicious of this all..." - Anmo
"I'm just glad to see she's alive!" - Maddie
Megan then starts a speech, explaining the true story as to why they were invited.
'The real reason why you all are here tonight... I have lied to you all. I work for the newly re-founded Society Against Evil. They are a group who work against any and all evil forces from the past, present and the future. There are eight artifacts from this era which we have to purify in order to defeat the evil here. However, and this will be the part where you all hate me, in order to cleanse one of these artifacts, a life from the modern world must be exchanged for each artifacts. If we fail to cleanse all eight artifacts by sunrise, we will all die in this time. I know this sounds crazy and you all might want to throw me to the wolves, but you will need me to Escape the Night. I was given the first artifact by a higher up member of the SAE so now we need to cleanse it...'
Everyone was shocked, betrayed and frightened by this news.
"I just came for a party... now eight of us have to die? Not cool..." - Jay
"HAHA I KNEW IT!" - Anmo
"I hate the situation we are in, but we have to give this a go. Even though we all have a high chance of dying, if we don't try, all of us will die." - Jelourd
The guests reluctantly agreed to help Megan in her quest, considering they had no real choice in the matter. The real questioned still remained... who would escape the night?
