Oranges

At that very day, I walked with a girl. I couldn't believe it. I never walked with a girl before. Until that day I won't forget. Anyways, let me tell the story.

One cold, cold Winter, I was at home, the very day I was gonna take a girl out... Grace.
I don't have a lot of money, though. Only a nickel and 2 oranges. My mom didn't give me much, or dad.
"Hey Mom...I was wondering if I could have a little more-" I got cut off. Mom raised her hand to silence me. "No, Gary. Remember, we're saving." Mom said firmly. I sighed. "Okay.." I glanced at Dad. He caught my eye. "Sorry Gary."
"Fine," I stomped my feet. "I'm going out."
Now at that minute, I was actually going out to find the girl, Grace. I marched around the neighborhood, trying to find her. Eventually what I saw, guided me.
Light.
"We don't have light at home," I thought. "I mean, we do, we just use candles instead."
I staggered toward the light. A girl came out.
I stopped and squinted at her. Blonde hair, big blue eyes, and what's that? Rouge? On her face? That's her! Grace! I walked towards her. I wasn't paying attention so I accidentally bumped her. She looked at me. I said nothing, she said nothing also. I motioned for her to come with me, she hesitated a little, but she nodded and followed me.
I led her toward the drugstore.
We eventually arrived at the Drugstore and we walked in the door, the doorbell on top jingled once we came in. We walked around, unsure of what to get. We went to the candy aisle. "What do you want?" I asked her, quietly. She moved her gaze toward the shelves, scanning every content. She lowered her hand toward the chocolate bar.
"This," she concluded her search. I looked at the price: 10 cents.
I had an idea though.
"Okay," I nodded approvingly. "Let's get it."
We walked toward the counter. Grace set the piece of chocolate on the counter, then she put her hands politely behind her back. I reached inside my jacket's locker and pulled out the Nickel and 1 Orange, and set them quietly on the counter. I glanced at Grace behind me. She was staring at the items I put on the counter. I glanced back in front of me, and the clerk lad was also looking at the items I put on the desk, then she looked at me. "You can keep the orange," I finally said. "In case you're hungry."
The clerk lady nodded. She put the orange to the side and put the 5 cents in the register.
"Have a good day," she said.
I wrapped my hand around Grace's hand and we both walked out of the drugstore.
We walked two blocks away from the drugstore and stopped. Grace looked at me. "I'm sorry..." she said. I lifted my head.
"For what?"
"That you don't have a lot of money."
"You don't need to apologize."
"Of course I do."
"But it's not necessary."
"But I'm happy you're trying." She kissed my cheek. I blushed.
"Thanks for believing.." I nervously said. She nodded and glanced down at the chocolate in her hand. She tore open the wrapper and began biting it. I dug my hand into my pocket and touched the orange, grabbed it, and began peeling the skin off. We both sat down on the pavement and ate our treats.

I sure want to forget this day, but at the same time...I don't.

I appreciate you guys for reading my story! :D
