In that means that it is unnecessary to to reply to them, if they are still open, because it won't change the fact that you wouldn't help the person since the format of the thread is wrong.
This means that there is a problem in the content or structure of the thread. That's why we let it stay open, so the creator of it can complete it or add information that helps us solving the problem.
