So, motivated by this thread, I decided to search about North Korean freedom and just... wow. Here’s some random facts.

  • If you commit petty theft in North Korea you may be subjected to public execution.
  • You are not allowed Internet.
  • If you are related to someone who has been accused of a crime, you’ll be put into a political prison camp, where conditions are harsh and oftentimes, death occurs.
  • You need to have permission from your work unit and the regime to travel, even if it’s just to another city in North Korea. Unless you live in Pyongyang, you’re most likely going to be denied unless you have a very very good reason.
  • A large portion of the North Korean curriculum is dedicated simply to learning about and memorising the history of the rulers’ - Kim - family.
  • When you’re caught trying to exit the country without permission - immediate torture and possible death.
  • If you’re female, and you do successfully exit the country, you will most likely become a victim of s♥♥ trafficking.
  • If you’re born to a North Korean refugee mother, they will have a hard time obtaining registration papers for you and therefore you will not be recognised by neither North Korean and Chinese governments, which means you will be denied basic rights, such as education and other state services.
