Laura_Palmer_Aria: A Oneshot
It was somewhere around the end of May or early June. Ray was at the wheel of the car, driving down the winding country road as the soft, afternoon breeze blew through the open windows.
Earlier, he stopped at an ice cream parlor, and bought Laura some Vanilla ice cream. Now, as she sat in his car, she finished the last of the ice cream and its cone. Just then, they arrived at their destination — an orchard that Ray’s uncle owned. There was an open field by the side, and that’s where they went.
As they picked a spot under a tall tree, they start talking in loud laughs and serious silence. They talk about everything and nothing. Just like always.
Time flies by, and they let it. Leaving it all behind, they take in the comfort of each other’s company. After a while, they get up and start running between the trees, ducking around branches and watching the world go by.
In the middle of a game of Hide and Seek, as Ray finds Laura, she sighs at the loss before asking him what he wants to do during the summer break. Shrugging, Ray interlaces his hand in hers, as they walk along the path back.
“I don’t know. We could hike around the hills nearby or maybe go sailing,” Ray says. Laura nods, as she looks up at the bright, blue sky.
“We could put your telescope to good use for once and look at the stars,” she chuckles. “Could just lay in bed the whole day, listening to music and reading books or watching movies.”
“I guess so, yeah,” Ray said. “Hey, follow me.”
Ray ran toward a tree, and started climbing it, using the branches as support. Higher and higher he climbed, and he felt like he could touch the sky from such a height. Glancing down, Ray sees Laura standing by the tree, wondering if she should take the risk and climb, or not.
“Come on, it’s not that high, we won’t get hurt,” Ray says. He starts climbing down to help Laura up. Hesitantly, she grabbed his hand and followed suit. Carefully, they navigate up the branches to the top. There they sit, watching the sun fall behind the mountains.
As the stars started shining bright in the evening sky, Laura tugged on Ray’s sleeve, signalling that she wanted to go down. They cautiously lowered themself on the branches, eventually reaching the ground.
“Let’s get you home,” Ray said; Laura leaning on his shoulder for support. She was tired. Like, really tired. You know when you come home from school and just want to sleep instead of do those 5 books of homework you have? Yeah, Laura felt that kinda tired. In fact, she was exhausted.
Just like all bad drivers, Ray held Laura’s hand on the ride to her house, as she slept. When they got there, Ray couldn’t bring himself to wake Laura up, so he consequently had to carry her — he did it bridal style, for some reason — up to her room.
He lay her down and kissed her forehead, before leaving.
