Laura opened her locker and watched as a heart-shaped piece of paper fell to the floor. She bent down and picked it up, before standing up and getting her stuff, putting the card into her locker to read at lunch. She hurried to her class, not noticing as the school freak stared at her, hoping she'd read his card.
Laura dumped her books in her locker, before picking up the card she'd left inside. She blushed as she read it, biting back a smile. She found it cute, the card. The wobbly handwriting made it even better. Laura didn't even need to look at the signature, she already knew who'd written it. She slammed her locker shut and looked around, before rushing down the stairs to the canteen.
Laura scanned the place, trying to spot the boy she was looking for. As her eyes landed on him, she felt someone tap her shoulder. Laura spun around, an excuse to escape from the person who wanted to speak with her already forming on her lips. That was, until she realised she was face-to-face with the school headmaster.
"Mr. Oak! Pleasure meeting you here. What is it you'd like?" Laura asked, a fake smile plastered on her face. Mr. Oak was possibly the worst headmaster in the history of headmasters. Not only was he strict, but he demanded everyone follow his exact rules, and one of them was "be given at least one book of homework per class", and Laura had 6 classes each and every day.
Mr. Oak asked Laura to hand him the card in her hand, and she did reluctantly. He read it and scowled at her. "Strictly no PDA in the school," he stated, tossing the card in the trash. Laura muttered beneath her breath, once Mr. Oak was out of earshot, "hah, PDA my ♥♥♥."
Laura turned around, but the boy she was looking for was gone. She frowned, and scanned the canteen again. Surely he couldn't have gotten far? Laura's eyes landed on a boy heading out to the field. Bingo.
Laura ran past the tables, past the crowd of people, to the field. She huffed, before looking up for any signs of him. She saw him walking across the field. He was right in the middle, and to his right were a bunch of boys who had a look which Laura could only label as mischief in their eyes. Laura started running.
The group of boys yelled at the boy, who stopped and looked up at them. One of them, the tallest out of all of them, yelled, "Hey, hermaphrodite!" Then he kicked a soccerball forcefully in the boy's direction. Before the boy even knew what was happening, Laura jumped in front of him, and the soccerball hit her right below her neck. She fell to the ground, the soccerball rolling away.
The boy dropped to his knees and shook Laura, checking for a pulse, trying to make sure she was all right. Laura sat up and rubbed the place she was hit, before noticing the boy, who was holding her by her shoulders, asking if she was okay.
Laura met his eyes - those hazy yellowish green orbs - and suddenly everything around her disappeared. All she could see was him. She took a deep breath and broke their eye contact when she felt someone shake her shoulder. She looked up, at the head of PE, Coach Taylors.
"Are you okay?" Coach Taylors asked, but Laura barely heard her. All she could think of was him. She nodded, and suddenly she was captured within a bear hug. "I'm so so sorry Laura - I didn't mean it, it was an accident, I swear!"
Laura recognised the voice as Wolfie's, and her mood immediately darkened. She pushed him away gently, and scowled at him. "I know you meant that soccerball to harm Ray," she growled silently. Thank God Coach Taylors had already left. Wolfie acted innocent, as if he didn't know what she meant, but Laura knew otherwise.
"Get away from me, homophobe," Laura growled. She got up and dusted off, noticing that Wolfie lingered close by, but honestly, she couldn't muster up the energy to care. She reached down to help the boy up. He looked at her hand doubtfully, but he grabbed it anyway, and let Laura pull him up.
"Ray." Laura breathed. Even his name made her feel good. "Thanks for the card. I have a question, but I feel like you should ask it."
"Do you mean what I think you mean?" Ray asked. His eyes glazed over hers, and hesistantly, he asked what he thought Laura meant. "Will you go out on a - a date with me?" Ray stammered. He was sure that wasn't it, he was a freak and he knew Laura knew it, so Ray was sure he'd gotten it wrong.
"Perfect-o." Laura whispered, much to Ray's surprise - and joy. She pulled Ray's collar, smashing her lips against his, not caring about the thousand of pairs of eyes on them.
As Laura and Ray parted their lips, Laura leaned towards Ray, whispering into his ears before hearing an angry Mr. Oak yelling at them to get away from each other right away.
"I love you just the way you are."
