Kendra has decided to stop writing this story (it's quite time-consuming posting a chapter every week). I may post less frequently, but I'll still carry on

Ray's point of view
An awkward silence hung in the air, after Lauren had trudged away looking for a water or food source, leaving Ray and Jc alone. She had muttered "boys..." as she left them, although Ray didn't know what she had meant - they hadn't done anything wrong (at least not to his knowledge).
They walked side by side, not really bothering to walk with quiet steps. It's not like they could be much quieter even if they tried.
This is awkward, Ray thought to himself, say something.
"You hungry?" was all he could think to say.
Jc glanced at him to check if he was joking. "Well, yeah. We haven't eaten for days."
Ray's face tinged red with embarrassment. "Me too."
"Um, so, how many tributes left?".
"Eleven, plus us." Ray stared at his shoes as he walked.
Well, this is awkward.
"Guys!" Lauren came up from behind them. "I found a water source - there's a stream nearby."
"Yes!" Jc exclaimed.
But Ray wasn't too sure. Something seemed off about Lauren. She seemed nervous, afraid. Maybe she saw something on her way to the stream?
Lauren glanced at the ground, and when she looked back up, all the nervousness had seeped from her face.
"Jc, why don't you go fill your bottle with water? You can drink as much as you like whilst Ray and I will scout out the area," Lauren glared at him.
"I-I don't think that's a good idea."
"Jc. Go to the stream. It's over there." She pointed the way she had come.
Jc nodded - he had learnt better than to argue with Lauren.
As Jc trudged away, Lauren stared after him, until he was out of sight. She looked Ray in the eyes. What was that on her face? Guilt?
Then she looked over his shoulder, at something behind him. Her eyes widened, her mouth dropped open, she recoiled in horror.
Ray spun around, readying himself to run.
But nothing was there.
He heard a loud sigh, and fell to the ground as he felt a hard punch in the back.
"You really are quite stupid."
He rolled over to see Lauren standing over him, looking at the ground, trying to avoid eye contact. In her hand, she held a knife.
"I'm sorry, Ray."
Ray's eyes widened. "WAIT! Wait, wait. I-I won't betray you if th-that's what you're thinking. I swear. Just, please, don't kill me."
Lauren sighed as she looked up at where Jc had gone, checking to make sure he wasn't back yet. "Listen. I know you won't betray us. You're way too dumb to even think about that." She sighed again. "I didn't find any water, I made it up. And no, I didn't do it to laugh at Jc, although that would've been pretty fun." She added seeing Ray's confused expression. "The point is... I need Jc to win, and I can't let you get in the way." She raised her knife higher, getting ready to strike.
"I won't get in your way, I'll help you let Jc win. Just don't kill me." Ray glanced at the knife. One move and he could die.
Lauren hesitated. "I'm sorry." She raised her arm as high as it could go, then she brought it crashing down.
Ray could've closed his eyes. He could've. But he didn't. He watched the knife fall, fall straight towards his chest.
Then he heard a high-pitched scream. The knife stopped merely an inch from his chest.
He had missed death by an inch.
Lauren jumped up and turned around to get a view of the who, or what, had screamed. A boy and a girl were running full-speed towards them. Their faces were filled with terror. They were running from something. The question was, what? Another high-pitched scream sounded, only, it came from the boy's mouth. Ray almost laughed, almost.
"What's wrong?!" Lauren shouted to them.
The girl's eyes were wide with terror, she was panting, trying to carry on running. Whatever it was they were running from must have been scary.
Only then did Ray notice Lauren was running the way Jc had wondered off, away from whatever the other tributes were running from. He shakily stood up and sprinted after Lauren, not knowing what they were running from.
Strelitzia's point of view
"Wake up, sleepyhead."
Elania's face was not something Strelitzia wanted to wake up to every morning.
She rubbed her eyes and climbed out of her sleeping bag. The birds tweeted, signalling time to wake up - now that was some thing she wanted to wake up to.
"Phoenix and I are going to kill some more petty little tributes, you and Elina guard the camp. Got it?"
Strelitzia nodded in reply and Elania and Phoenix took off into the woods.
"We've got bread for breakfast, and some kind of bird egg," Elina nodded towards a sheet of plastic on the ground, which someone seemed to have dumped their breakfast onto.
"Gee, it looks absolutely delicious."
Strelitzia was surprised at just how nice, and friendly, Elina was. They could have been very good friends if they weren't competing against each other in a death match.
In the short amount of time they had talked, they had found several things in common, including the fact that they were both only on the careers team so they would have the supplies to survive. That lead them to hatch a plan to leave the team together.
This is how it would go down: they would quietly leave at night when they're meant to be keeping watch (it was their shift that night), next try to find Ray's team (who Elina had convinced Strelitzia would help) and get them to help kill the careers. They had spotted his team wandering in a direction earlier, so they were going to follow them that way.
You may ask, why didn't they just kill Phoenix and Elania whilst they were sleeping? Well, for one, Elania was a very light sleeper so the odds of her not waking up were pretty slim. Two, none of them were killers, they didn't want to murder someone, good or bad.
"Ugh, we didn't find any tributes in the area," Elania spoke sullenly.
"Maybe you'll find some tomorrow," Strelitzia implored.
Elania stared at her, trying to read her expression. "Alright, you two keep watch. And don't doze off!" And with that, she and Phoenix snuggled into their cosy sleeping bags and seemed to fall asleep instantly. Well, they started snoring immediately anyway.
The moon washed the land in a gentle light. Stars glittered like a diamond necklace in the black, velvet sky. The trunks of trees were framed against the moon like the bars of a prison. Strelitzia didn't feel at all scared, in fact, she felt somewhat brave.
She glanced over at Elina, who was staring up at the dazzling stars and the stunning moon. Elina looked into her eyes, she didn't look scared either, although she didn't look brave, she looked wistful.
They stared into each other's eyes for a few seconds longer, which made Strelitzia think, is this the right thing to do?
Then Elina nodded. The signal. The plan was on.
They both stood up, weapons of choice in their hands. Then they took off, like wolves chasing after their prey.
It's going pretty well so far, she thought to herself, they haven't woken up yet.
But something had to go wrong. She heard a loud crackling noise. And what was that smell? Smoke?
Before she knew it, a forest fire was raging towards them. Tree after tree it tore down. Nothing could stand in its way.
All the commotion woke Phoenix and Elania up. The were already out of their sleeping bags, although they were clearly annoyed at being woken up before morning.
"You two idiots were meant to keep watch for any danger!" Elania screamed. "Does that not look like danger to you?" She gestured towards the fire.
The careers had probably just assumed The Games would go their way, that there wouldn't be any obstacle they couldn't overcome. Turns out there was, and it came in the form of a forest fire.
Being so unprepared for this situation, Strelitzia and her team were chaotic. They were running everywhere (only Elina was actually running away from the fire); none of them knew what to do. They didn't even think to save their supplies from the fire, which they should have considering they were pretty useless without them (anyone was).
She gasped for air (the smoke from the fire was not helping), bending her head towards the ground in exhaustion. Then she saw her. Running as far away as possible from Elania and Phoenix. Running the way they had discussed. Her dark hair was flying behind her. The plan was still on. Elina was running toward Ray's team. Strelitzia made an attempt to follow, only to realise her sleeve had caught onto a branch. She successfully yanked it free, only to become face to face with a horrifying sight. The raging fire as it consumed her - in one bite.
