It's a pretty short chapter this week (compared to the others), but next week we'll make it longer :D

Ray's point of view
"Ladies and gentlemen, let the 64th Hunger Games begin!"
Ray took off like lightning, sprinting towards the cornucopia. By the time he reached the backpack he was going for, almost all of the faster tributes had already reached the cornucopia. He snatched the backpack up before anyone could take it from him. It was a good thing he hadn't gone for the supplies inside the cornucopia. If he had, he would already be dead. Just like the lifeless bodies lying on the ground. No one could help them now.
The cleverer tributes had already taken a bag and gone, except for the careers, or course. They always stayed to make sure all the weak tributes were eliminated before claiming nearly all of the supplies. The positive side of running away earlier, is that you don't have to witness the horror, known as the bloodbath.
All of the careers, including Elina, had grabbed their favourite weapons and were killing any tributes who came near their supplies.
Blood was everywhere. Cannon shots were sounding as frequently as Jc and Lauren argued with each other. Dead bodies were scattered everywhere.
Move, Ray told himself, before you end up like them.
Ray scanned his surroundings, tall trees stood about fifty metres from the cornucopia, surrounding the area.
Lauren, he silently called, where are you?
There. She was standing next to an area that looked like it contained the most trees. By the time he reached her, his heart was racing, he gasped for air.
"Jeez, you better get used to running. Otherwise you're dead." Lauren stood further in the woods, out of sight from the careers. "Now hurry up, before they see you."
Ray dragged himself over to Lauren and leant against a tree for support.
He looked back at the cornucopia, only the careers were left, they were dividing the supplies between them.
"Where's-" Ray started.
Lauren held up her hand for silence and stepped behind a tree trunk. Elina was looking their way.
"I don't know where Jc is, he should be here by now," she whispered curtly.
Ray held his breath. What if Jc didn't make it? Would Lauren still want him on her team? Would she even let him get away? Or would she just kill him and not think twice about it? Or what if-
Ray's train of thoughts was interrupted by Jc's cry for help, he was coming closer towards them. Lauren took immediate action, she stepped out from behind the tree and brought out one of her knives, throwing it with insane accuracy. The sound of a cannon told them the knife had found its target.
Jc dove into the trees with them, and collapsed in exhaustion.
"What were you doing Jc?!" Lauren raged. Now you see how frequent the cannon shots had sounded.
"I saw my chance to grab a huge backpack, and I took it!" Jc argued in between breaths.
"What did I tell you about taking chances?" Lauren sighed in exasperation.
Jc opened his mouth to argue back.
"Forget it! You two just follow me before they find us."

~ A few hours later ~
After trekking further into the woods, they set up camp for the night in a large, sturdy tree. There were three wide branches, one for each of them. The sun was drifting lower and lower behind the trees.
Jc opened his backpack to look inside.
"If you want to see why my backpack was worth getting, look at this."
Jc took out a short, silver sword.
Lauren rolled her eyes. "It's no use if you don't know how to use it."
Even in the dim light, Ray could see Jc's face turning a deep shade of red. Jc took out a roll of bandages and some knives, and smiled in triumph.
Lauren's eyes widened, "I'll take those." She grabbed the knives out of his hand.
Ray tilted his head. "Is that it? My backpack is a lot smaller and I have nearly as many things." He emptied the contents of his backpack onto the thick tree trunk. There was an empty water bottle, a knife and some paper.
"Paper?" Jc laughed. "What use is that?"
"For making a fire, idiot," Lauren retorted.
Jc's face turned an even deeper shade of red. "Yeah, well, I've got this." He thrust his hand inside his backpack and brought out a box of cereal.
Ray's eyes were the size of saucers, his mouth fell open. "I had that in the Capitol! It's so delicious."
He made an attempt to grab the box, but Jc kept a tight grip on it. Ray yanked the box as hard as he could. To his dismay, the box tumbled onto the ground below, bringing Jc with it.
Lauren looked as if she was contemplating how she ended up with such useless teammates. She shook her head, then took a rolled-up sleeping bag and some rope from her backpack, and tied the sleeping bag to her branch. She took one last look at Jc failing miserably to climb the tree, then sighed and snuggled up inside her bag.
Ray helped Jc back up. They both sat shivering, and stared wistfully at Lauren's sleeping bag, with only a half-empty box of cereal to eat.

Elina's point of view
Whoosh!

Elina turned around and came face to face with Phoenix's spear. The tip of the spear was pointed right at her neck. One quick move of the spear and that would be the end of her. At first she thought that was what he was trying to do, that the careers had planned on killing her all along. So she put her hands up in surrender, which caused Phoenix to snicker and lower his spear. She dropped her hands back down and scowled at him.
"Can you practice on someone else next time? Or at least tell me when you're going to do it?" Elina glared at Phoenix. "You could have killed me!"
In response, Phoenix merely laughed like a lunatic and walked away. Sometimes, Elina wondered if he was insane. Maybe he was.
"Having some trouble with Phoenix?" Elina turned around to see Strelitzia, who was looking around the cornucopia for any tributes left. "Just ignore him, he likes to irritate people." Strelitzia smiled at her and continued to look around.
"Yeah, he's really annoying, I wish he would just leave me - and everyone else - alone," Elina grumbled, mostly saying the last part to herself.
"Shut up, I can hear you!" Phoenix yelled irritatedly.
Wow, Elina thought, that guy has good hearing.

"Guys, we better get going. We can go explore the arena, and find some more people to kill..." Elina saw Phoenix lick his lips as he said the last part.
She wanted to be sick. She really hoped Strelitzia was normal, maybe she didn't want to kill anyone. The other careers were sickening. The Capitol was sickening.
"...and then we come back to the cornucopia. Sounds like a good plan? What do you think, Elina?" Phoenix finished. Elina snapped out of her thoughts and looked blankly at him.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, sounds good," Elina murmured. She hadn't bothered to listen to most of what he said. She was starting to regret not going with Ray and his team, but on the good side, she was probably safer with the careers. No one would dare attack them, and plus, they were all brilliant fighters.
"Were you even listening to anything I said? You need to focus if you want to win, Elina," Phoenix spoke sharply.
Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of their bed, Elina thought, or maybe he's right, maybe I do need to focus more.

Elina and the rest of the careers packed up their stuff, and - thanks to the sun - headed north. She still couldn't really believe that the careers had wanted her on their team, but of course, she didn't decline their offer.

As they entered the woods, Elina's heart missed a beat. She forgot how much danger she was in, someone could just kill her right now. Talking to Strelitzia comforted her a little, it reminded her of talking to her friends at home. Well, she didn't have any friends, but you get the point.

The sky was so blue and clear. The majestic trees stood like guards - tall and proud. But what were they guarding? Tributes who wanted to hide near them and climb them? The secret to winning The Games?
"Earth to Elina?" Elania waved her hand in Elina's face. "Are you too busy dreaming about your lover, what's his name, Rat? Or do you want to do the honours?" Elania smirked and gestured to a poor, terrified girl who was pinned against a tree while shaking in fear. Elina only just realized what Elania meant, she (once again) tried to stop herself from throwing up. The girl only looked about twelve.
"Nah, you can do it," Elina said through gritted teeth. She sadly glanced at the girl they were about to - she couldn't even bear to say it - kill. She looked away just as Elania raised her sword.
The scream of the girl was something she would never forget. It was deafening. It was pure horror. And there would be a lot more of it to come.
Elina tried to cover her ears but it didn't work, she could still hear it. A cannon immediately went off, and Elina saw Phoenix high-five Elania and congratulate her. That made her actually be sick. Yes, she threw up right there, on the spot.
She just wanted to get out of the stupid arena and run away. Run away to a world where the capitol didn't exist and everyone could do what they wanted to. On second thoughts, maybe a few rules...

About an hour later, they successfully found a glimmering pool of water. After filling up their empty bottles, splashing their faces with water and having enough to drink, they made their way back to the cornucopia. On the way, Elina spotted a small boy with black hair running through the trees, but she didn't mention it to the others. They were just gonna take his life away like they did with the girl. She shuddered, remembering the horrifying experience.

As Elina was falling asleep, she gazed up at the stars as the pictures of the tributes who died that day flashed in the sky. It's normal for a lot of tributes to be killed on the first day, it usually becomes less and less after that. Both tributes from District 3 were dead. Strelitzia's district partner was gone. The girl from District 5, whom Elina recognised as the girl Elania killed. The boys from Districts 6 and 8 were also dead, along with both tributes from District 10. So many innocent people were killed, all because of the stupid Capitol.
