Regardless, It definitely sounds like a problem with his existing Minecraft Installation. The user interface indicators imply that he is using a sketchy version of Minecraft Pocket Edition although it's difficult to tell given how cropped it is.

I don't think an internet connection is required as I've been able to play through the game perfectly fine on Bedrock and Java Edition without an internet connection or need to check for licensing. I'm not sure how this could have happened.

That's quite odd. I've never experienced that issue before from the Microsoft Store.

The only possible way that there would be a remaining time indicator would be if you are running a free trial of Minecraft. The trial version of minecraft explicitly mentions that it does not support multiplayer which is what really confuses me about your post. lol

How did you get multiplayer working on a trial version of Minecraft?

You've done this in the last round of mafia, Dz. With the whole "If I can vote as many people as possible out then we win?" situation.
