You're right, as far as I know 
Texture packs are fine, they don't really give an advantage, it's just X-ray that isn't allowed (for obvious reasons)

It is something to remove the night like going a cave dont need a torch or like using a torch but without tech thr torching an entire cave but as a texture pack.
