Didn't you say you were Guyanese in your diversity thread? Don't they do CXC there...?
Well it's this big exam where I live, a real-life equivalent of OWLs in the HP-verse. Technically CXC isn't the name of the exams, it stands for Caribbean Examination Council, which is in charge of them. But everyone calls the exams that.
First off, I'm surprised your spanish teacher talks bout Guyana. Not many Spanish knows bout it and it is kind of forgotten in South America. I think CXC means "subjects or classes". I recently went to Guyana and saw my cousins over there. They have summer classes and start high school earlier. High school begins for them when they are going into 7th grade. They stay in high school for 5 years.
Actually, I live in the United States, I live in the state of New Jersey. But I have some experience with education in Guyana. My cousin has said that the teacher teached the topic and like mid term or at the end of the year, they test them on it so they have to remember it during the year. If you want, I'll ask my cousins.
I don't live in South America, actually, just that some countries there do CXC I guess. And he isn't actually Spanish either, but he teaches it. No, it stands for Caribbean Examination Council.
Yeah, that's pretty much how school works where I live too. We call it secondary school and here, we enter it at 11. So Grade 6 I think, but we call that Form 1. And some schools go to Form 5 while others go to Form 6. 'Course it WOULD be different in different countries.
