Referring to 'deducting' are you perhaps referencing 'deductive' reasoning in the logical area of Philosophy? The one where a general rule is used to reason out specific examples? Linked with the theory of rationalism in epistemology, which refers to how Knowledge is derived, being derived from priori Knowledge and reasoning, disregarding our senses.
