i read the book - yes, i am aware that it's not the most appropriate piece of writing for my age range - and i enjoyed it thoroughly! it's one of my favourite novels.
one massive flaw, is that the plot was supposed to be, like, gay. the story was never ENTIRELY about the painting - the goldfinch - it was also about boris and theo, about how they fell in love and reconciled years later. how they never truly forgot about each other. and that wasn't entirely involved in the movie.
they didn't show how theo felt when boris didn't turn up in new york, they didn't show us if he waited up every night for him, and wondered if he ever even cared.
they had two and a half hours of film, and yet, i felt that it was still so rushed!! they didn't cover all details needed to make it a truly enjoyable film.
it also lacked character development on a lot of the surrounding characters. but then again, it is a movie adaption of an 800-page-long novel, and it was already fit into two and a half hours of film.
i also absolutely adore the cast!! oakes, finn and aneurin all did an insanely good job at portraying the characters. they're all so well-spoken and i really enjoyed watching their interviews
i'm also a sucker for gay ships, and i couldn't honestly tell you how many boreo (theo and boris' ship name!) edits i've watched!! they had such a precious relationship, and the film would have been so much better if it was more focused on.
