would deffo have to say John Green, he is my favourite author (Rainbow Rowell is too but shhh), and he writes some of the best novels imo. yes it's mostly romance but oMFG have you read them?!?! they have literally everything you need in a novel from cute bits to bits that tear your heart apart to bits that are so realistic, they hurt you
